St. Thomas Lutheran Church was built in 1908 at Chapin Street and Fischer Street, on Detroit's lower east side. St. Thomas Lutheran Church served the mostly-German residents of the east side neighborhood that surrounded the church. St. Thomas Lutheran Church started with only fifteen members, but had reached over one hundred by the 1920's. ...

The congregation of St. Thomas continued to grow, especially when St. Thomas merged with St. Peter in 1945. This new congregation renamed the church St. Thomas-St. Peter Church. In 1959, St. Thomas-St. Peter Church built a brand-new building in the suburb of Eastpointe. By 1968, St. Thomas-St. Peter had moved all of it's members and the congregation into the newer building in Eastpointe. The former St. Thomas Lutheran Church was sold to another congregation. This congregation (unknown name) occupied the church until 1996.

In 1996, Greater Church by Christ Jesus had bought the church from the previous congregation. Greater Church by Christ Jesus began services at the church in 1997, but this congregation was also short-lived. Greater Church by Christ Jesus held it's last service in 2003. By 2004, Greater Church by Christ Jesus had completely abandoned the church.

The former St. Thomas Lutheran Church was abandoned in 2004 and soon it was being scrapped of it's values and furnishings, including the back door, which was left open for many years. In 2012, a pastor named Mike, bough the former St. Thomas Lutheran Church. Mike plans to open up another church in this historic location.In 2014, construction crews began to renovate the former church, but the structure has a lot of damage that needs to be repaired before it re-opens anytime soon.
