The Book Tower was built in 1926 and designed in Italian Renaissance architectural style by the famous Detroit architect Louis Kamper. The Book Tower is connected to the Book Building, which was built and opened first, in 1917. The Book Tower was located at 1227-1265 Washington Boulevard in downtown Detroit, MI. It is named after the Book brothers, who owned the property on Washington Avenue and decided to build a dream skyscraper. At over 36-stories tall, the Book Tower was the largest abandoned structure in the United States of America, and third largest abandoned building in the world. ...

In 2009, the Book Tower was abandoned.

In 2015, Quicken Loans owner, Dan Gilbert, purchased the Book Tower. Workers have cleaned out the entire building and are going to transform the Book Tower into retail and residential space.

As of 2016, work continues on restoring the Book Tower to its former glory.
